Charlotte Bronte's impassioned novel is the love story of Jane Eyre, a plain yet spirited governess, and her arrogant, brooding Mr. Rochester. Published in 1847, under the pseudonym of Currer Bell, the book heralded a new kind of heroine--one whose virtuous integrity, keen intellect and tireless perseverance broke through class barriers to win equal stature with the man she loved. Hailed by William Makepeace Thackeray as "the masterwork of great genius," Jane Eyre is still regarded, over a century later, as one of the finest novels in English literature
A classic, beautiful written story. I was surprised how I really enjoyed Jane Eyre, eventhough it was quite slow pace and its flowery words were quite difficult for me to understand as a foreigner. From the very first line, when Jane put the book in the hidden window, and then her cousin hit her with that thick book, I do understand how does this little Jane feel: loneliness, friendless, and desperately need to be loved.
Destiny made her to meet Mr. Rochester, and both of them obviously fall in love each other. I love the character of Jane. She is like an egg: stubborn and strong outside, but once she cracked, she just fall easyly. Although I have known the ending even before reach half of it, my own mind told me that this classic and beautiful story was not going to make me bored. I just knew that this story will not that simple. I am emotionally involved to Jane's especially when she decided to leave Thornfield, or when finally Mr. Rochester ask her to marry him.
Ah, I don't know what to say. Jane Eyre make me love the classic stories. Fact that I read the English text is maybe the one between other factors that make me really enjoy reading this book. It will be different, if I read the Bahasa Indonesia one.
