M.J., her partner Gilley, and their client, the wealthy, de-lish Dr. Steven Sable, are at his family's lodge, where his grandfather allegedly jumped to his death from the roof-although Sable says it was foul play. But the patriarch's isn't the only ghost around. The place is lousy with souls, all with something to get off their ghoulish chests. Now M.J. will have to to quell the clamor-and listen for a voice with the answers..
I must admit that I was working hard on this book. Actually, the main idea was interesting, as long as you consider a ghosbusting and psychic thingy is an interesting idea. But, there are too many distractions in this book that I just couldn't ignore.
For me, the major story is quite interesting, but not that much. If the author could make it more complicated and unusual, it would be better than a plain story like this. M.J who has the ability to interact with spirit of dead people, has a gay partner named Giller who was afraid of ghost (really an irony) and a Germany client who hire them to reveal his grandfather's death mystery. Then M.J and Steven Sable, her Germany client, would be fell in love each other. Err..it could be more than just that, IMHO.
Doc, her parrot, is the other distraction for me. I have never known a bird could talk and converse with human like that. It could not only talk but also answer the question. Just like a human. Please correct me if you know better than me, but this is just like unbelievable for me though.
Then, you will notice that there are too many phrases,"How do you say...??". Oh please, I never imagine that an educated person, a doctor like Dr. Steven Sable who able speak in 5 different language, could say such annoying thing like that. He can't be that stupid not to know many simple terms in english.
But, afterall, I finish this book and give it 3 stars. Not to mention that I have no heart to give just 2 stars. I really want to love this book, but maybe this is just not my cup of tea. Maybe I wont read the next book (this book is the first in a series). Still, there are many people love this book and it has good rating on Goodreads.
